Taotie by Thomas Garnier is an art installation inspired by the 18th-century Phantasmagoria, where shadows and lights were used to create ghostly illusions. Instead of ghosts, Garnier Garnier uses a robotic platform that constantly moves and adjusts, casting light on 3D-printed sculptures that resemble large, automated factories, called "dark factries," which work without human workers or lights. These spaces operate day and night, run entirely by machines.

In Taotie, light passes through wireframe sculptures, casting shifting shadows, creating a strange and constantly changing environment. The installation makes us think about these huge, cold spaces that are cut off from human life and routine. By exploring this, Garnier raises questions about the impact of automation and how it alters our sense of time, space, and human involvement in work.
